Android requires Location permissions for any device that uses bluetooth as a privacy precaution. (iOS does not have this requirement) Since KardiaMobile 6L works using bluetooth, we are forced to get location permission also. We would not ask for any privacy permissions we do not need, but this is out of AliveCor's hands. Here is a VERY technical document from Android.com that discusses the need for location permission when using bluetooth.
If you wish to allow location permissions, you can do one of the following:
From the Kardia App:
- Tap the "Turn on Bluetooth" button on the error screen to trigger the prompt to turn on bluetooth
- choose "Allow"
From phone settings
- Open your phone settings
- Navigate to the Kardia App permissions. This area can be in different locations but for example on Google Pixel phones this can be found by navigating to "Apps and Notifications" > "Kardia"
- Tap the Permissions area
- Toggle ON the toggle for Location by tapping the toggle so it is to the right, and shows blue
- Return to the Kardia app
You're all set, and the screen should transition to the normal recording screen.
Note: This ONLY applies to Android, and when using the KardiaMobile 6L device. iOS and KardiaMobile do not have this bluetooth concern.
